Learning to Sew
Well, I just got finished reading several posts of my friend, Sara's blog. Her entries are always so enticing and fun to read. Too bad I didn't get blessed with the creative writing skills she did. Oh well. So, one of my friends is teaching me how to sew. Yes, that's right....I never learned how to sew. My first project was curtains. I'm not completely finished with them but when I finish I will take pictures. They add so much to our family room.
Now, you have to understand, my friend has two children who are very close in age with my children. She has a boy who is a year younger than KennaDee and a daughter who is a month in a half older than Jackson. Well, we were trying activity after activity to keep them entertained while we cut, sewed, measured, cut and sewed my curtains. It was seriously an all day project. We started at 2 and they didn't leave until 9:00 that evening. Where were our husbands? Out. Anyhow. We gave them pudding and it seemed that that had done the trick. They were quiet just eating their pudding downstairs while we were upstairs sewing. (Or so we thought.)
After the few minutes of silence, all of a sudden we hear laughing.....not just any laughter, but the kind of laughter that puts you on the floor and your stomach aching. Yeah, they were laughing hysterically. Megan goes downstairs to see what was so funny and she foun
d Jackson like this.

Yep, they thought it was sooo funny to cover Jackson in pudding. His hair was covered, his clothes covered and the floor had several spots all over the carpet.
When Megan went downstairs, she called me, "Shara, we might have a problem," (she said this while laughing as well) "and you might want to bring your camera." I thought, oh they probably threw pudding all over my couch, so I grabbed my camera and ran downstairs.
I have to admit, I started to laugh until it occured to me that pudding has milk in it. YIKES!! I snapped a couple pictures and then ran Jackson to the bathtub. In case any of you do not know, he breaks into a huge rash and then the rash turns into little white welts wherever the milk touches. After the welts, it turns to excema. Poor guy. He loves pudding and wasn't too happy when I washed it all off.
Our day continued like that. Spill after spill after spill. That's what happens when you are so focused on something and leave two 2-3 year olds unattended for more than 5 minutes.

Japanese Exchange Student
For a week in August we had a foreign exchange student from Japan come stay with us and it was soo much fun! They had a specific schedule that they followed with the tour bus during the day for Monday through Friday and then Saturday and Sunday, they were just with us. We took her Six Flags in Maryland and she absolutely loved it. She said that they don't have huge amusement parks like that in Japan. Sunday we took her to the visitors center. She watched The Testaments in Japanese and they toured the area with the return missionary from Japan. She said she had a really great time.
It was kinda funny, she didn't speak very much English so she had this electronic translator and sometimes, I would try and ask her something and she would just give me this blank stare, then we would both smile, laugh and she'd hand me her translator. We had lots of fun together.
I didn't get too many pics of her but here she is with us on our
couch.
And here she is with her friends at
the visitors center.
If you ever have the opportunity to take in an exchange student, I would strongly encourage it. We had Ayane for a week and I wish she could have stayed longer. It seemed like right when we were communicating well, she had to leave. But it was lots of fun.
